Don’t worry, workers didn’t find the body in the spot where the IKEA store will go.
Construction workers had to stop bulldozing and call in homicide detectives after finding human bones near the site of St. Louis’ future IKEA store.
Luckily, there wasn’t any foul play. Rather, the human remains were most likely buried when the land was still the old Rock Springs Cemetery back in the mid-1800s.

Officials will x-ray the land to check for more graves, says Maggie Crane, spokeswoman for Mayor Francis Slay, to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
It’s not immediately clear whether the newly found dead body will delay or otherwise affect construction on the IKEA store, which is scheduled to open in fall 2015.
Crews dug up the human remains and will rebury them at Calvary Cemetery, which has its own section for bodies discovered in the old Rock Springs Cemetery, the St. Louis Archdiocese tells the Post-Dispatch. The archdiocese says it likely won’t be able to identify the remains since records don’t reach that far back.
For those of you worried about IKEA being haunted by the ghost of the unearthed body, there’s no need to fear. Crews unearthed the remains a block away from the official store site while bulldozing to create roads for construction on land owned by Metro, according to the Post-Dispatch.
