Built in 1945, this mid-century modern home is a true gem. It’s an all-metal Lustron home, made of enameled steel. These prefabricated homes were one of many styles invented to house the huge wave of returning GIs after World War II. Chicago industrialist and inventor Carl Strandlund formed the Lustron Corp. to build low-maintenance, no-fuss options for the new homeowners.
With steel framing and walls, Lustron homes have stood the test of time. Though many have been lost to demolition and development, the few that remain are highly coveted by mid-century enthusiasts.
